  • How Do I Change My Existing Password?

    If you forgot your password:

    Step 1: Make sure you're logged out of DistroKid. (Click here, or click on your profile image in the top right > "sign out" to log out)

    Step 2: Go to and click "Sign In" (top right) > "Forgot your password?

    Step 3: You will then be asked to enter the email you used when signing up for DistroKid, and we'll send an email with steps to reset your password.

    If you remember your current password:

    Click on your profile icon in the top right > Account > and click "Want to change your password?"

  • I Already Paid, But Can't Log Into My DistroKid Account

    Trying to log into your existing DistroKid account but being asked to choose a plan instead?

    That usually means that you signed up with a different email address, or entered a typo in your email address.

    Please make sure you're using the correct email, and try again.

  • Why Didn't DistroKid Respond to My Email/Send My 2-Step Authentication Code?

    Generally, we reply to all emails within 1-2 days. If you're not receiving a response from DistroKid support, or not receiving the 2-step authentication emails, it's likely that they're either going to spam, or being bounced entirely by your email provider. More info here!

    Check in with your email provider to ensure that all emails from are allowed. If you're using an older email, such as a school email, etc., considering using something more permanent, like Gmail.

  • Does DistroKid Charge Sales Tax?


    Sales tax may be applied to your recurring and one-time payments according to the applicable sales tax rates in your country, state, province, territory, county, and/or city at the time of the charge.

    You can view the cost of your subscription, as well as any sales tax added to your subscription, from your receipts page.

    Please note: Tax rates vary state by state, and even county by county. These rates are subject to change at any time based on local tax requirements.

  • Why Is My Card Not Working?

    Unfortunately, if your credit card isn’t working, there’s very little we can do to assist. That’s because our card processor is telling us that your bank is declining the transactions on their end.

    In fact, your credit card info never touches our servers or our database -- it’s sent directly from your browser to our credit card processor -- so there’s nothing we can change on our end to fix it.

  • I Need a Receipt. How Do I Get a Receipt?

    Need a receipt for your bookkeeping? No problem!

    You can find detailed information about all charges by clicking on your profile picture icon in the upper right, then selecting Receipts.

    That should have you covered. We're not able to add additional info (like invoice numbers, tax info, etc.) to receipts.

  • I Have a Question Regarding a Charge/Refund

    Curious about a recent charge from DistroKid? It's typically either your annual subscription fee, or renewal for album extras you opted into and agreed to pay annually when uploading.

    You can find detailed information about all charges by clicking on your profile icon in the top right, and then clicking "Receipts".

    You can also see specifics about any extras that you might have opted into under the EXTRAS section of the album pages from your DistroKid dashboard.

  • What's My Renewal Date?

    Your account will automatically renew every year on the date that you signed up and paid for your current subscription. We do not send an email prior to charging the renewal fee, so you may just want to make sure your credit card information is up to date.

    To view the date that you signed up, simply click on your profile icon in the upper right, then select Receipts. The first date/charge listed will be the date you signed up.

    Note: You may see an occasional $1 charge, followed immediately by a $1 refund. That is a test hold that our credit card processing system administers use to verify that cards are still active.

  • What is Social Phone?

    DistroKid’s Social Phone feature allows you to grow your fanbase with text messaging. Once you opt in, you can pick a number, and send & receive texts with your fans using our intuitive texting inbox.

    Opt in for $12.99/month. Opt out at any time.

    Why would I want Social Phone?
    Texts have a 98% open-rate, compared with social media where only 2% of followers see your posts. DistroKid is always working to build new avenues for artists to connect with their fans. 

    Can I send a mass text to everyone who reaches out to me on Social Phone?
    At this time, you cannot send one text to all contacts that have reached out to you on social phone -- that said, you can collect the numbers of those who have reached out to you to use with third party SMS marketing tools. 

    Can I have more than one Social Phone Number?

    You get one number with unlimited texts for now (we'll see how that goes). 

    Out of country texts?

    This number works with US and non-US fans (based on testing so far). Though, if you are communicating with an individual in another country, they may want to include the country code in the phone number when texting you back (+1 followed by the Social Phone #).

    Can I sort contacts that reach out to me on Social Phone?

    When your fans sign up to contact you via Social Phone, they can input information about themselves. At this time contacts can add their name, city, birthdate, and gender identity. You cannot sort contacts by any of these identifying flags, but if you use a third party SMS promotional tool these can be useful for setting up demographic groups.

  • I Recently Signed Up, but Wanna Upgrade. Will I Have to Pay the Full Amount of the Next Plan to Upgrade?

    Within your first year of membership, if you upgrade within 14 days of signing up, you'll automatically receive a full refund for your previous plan. Upgrades after 14 days will be prorated at a discount. Only within the first year, however.

  • Can I Downgrade to a Lower DistroKid Plan?

    At this time, the only way to downgrade is to delete your albums, cancel your account, and create a new account with a lower plan with a new email address. For more information about how to do this, please check out this FAQ article.

    Please note that if you choose to do this, and sign up for the Musician plan instead of Musician Plus or a Label plan, you will lose the ability to choose a label name, specify release dates, and other great features.

  • How Do I Cancel My DistroKid Account?

    To cancel your account:

      1. Sign into DistroKid 
      2. Click on your profile icon in the upper right
      3. Select "Account"
      4. Scroll to the bottom and click the red link that says "Delete Account"
      5. Follow the instructions (and major guilt-trip) that is presented to you therein!

    Then watch as we cry.

  • What Happens If I Stop Paying the Annual Fee?

    If you stop paying the annual fee (and haven't opted into "Leave a Legacy," more info on that in bold below), we may remove your DistroKid songs & albums from streaming services. You will continue to have access to and (of course) will receive any earnings owed to you.

    Assuming that you didn't opt into Leave a Legacy... the reason why we remove former-customers' music from streaming services is because it's a lot of work for us to gather revenue reports from streaming services, pay out earnings, do customer service, and so on. Your membership fee covers all that.

    We'll automatically re-bill you every year so you don't have to think about it. If the charge fails, we'll give you ample notice before removing any of your music from streaming services. We know you don't want any surprises when it comes to your music.

    Also, in the rare case that we remove your music from streaming services after your yearly subscription ends, you can of course re-join DistroKid any time and upload it again.

    If you want your music to stay in streaming services forever in the event of a lapsed credit card payment, check out our "Leave a Legacy" option. Read about it in our FAQ here.

  • If I Don't Renew My DistroKid Subscription, Will My Music Stay Live in Streaming Services?

    If you don't renew your subscription to DistroKid, services will remove your music. The subscription is billed on an annual basis from the day you sign up.

    To prevent this, you can opt any upload into DistroKid's optional Leave a Legacy extra.

    The “Leave a Legacy” extra can be added to a release so that it won't be removed by DistroKid due to a lapsed membership payment (if your credit card is declined/rejected, etc.).

    On top of that, if you ever choose to cancel your subscription, any releases that have the Leave a Legacy extra added will remain in streaming services, even if you cancel your account.

    Adding this extra to a release does not replace your annual membership fee if you have an active subscription, and it is not a one-time payment for all of your releases: each release must have this extra included if you wish to cancel your subscription and keep your releases listed in streaming services.

    To opt-in, find the Leave a Legacy checkbox on DistroKid's upload form, or on your album page, and leave your legacy for future generations.

  • If I Cancel My Account, Can I Still Access My Backups in DistroKid Vault?


    DistroKid Vault is amazing but it's only for DistroKid members.

    If you plan on canceling and need your audio files, UPCs, or ISRCs, just head to DistroKid Vault and download your stuff before cancelling.

    To access your DistroKid Vault, click "Goodies", then expand the "Protect your music" menu. From there, you can select "Vault" to access your DistroKid Vault.
