Welcome, Stem artists! We're excited to help you make the switch to DistroKid, and we're sure you won't be disappointed!
It's easy to switch to DistroKid. Here's how:
- Upload the releases you have active with Stem to DistroKid
- The next day, ask Stem to remove those releases
DistroKid is fast so there's a chance that your albums appear in stores twice, before Stem takes the old ones down. This brief overlap is okay.
Important: Make sure to use the exact same metadata (song titles, album title, ISRCs, etc.) and audio files you you uploaded to Stem (basically, exactly what is currently live at Spotify, Apple, etc). That way, stores (especially Spotify) will try to ensure that you don't lose play counts or playlists that you're on. We can't guarantee this because it's out of our hands -- but that's generally how it works.
Once you've got your music uploaded to DistroKid, you can use our revenue splits feature (called Teams) to assign a % of each song to your collaborators, and we'll take care of all of the splits and accounting for you!
Note: Your collaborators will need to sign-up with DistroKid to receive revenue splits (they'll get a 50% discount when you invite them to join Teams), but don't need to distribute music through DistroKid to be paid their share of earnings.
